Cleaning materials and products — a practical guide
Good results depend on matching the tool and product to the surface, using the right amount and avoiding combinations that can damage materials or create unsafe reactions.
Microfibre and cloths
- Use separate cloths for different zones and tasks.
- Choose softer materials for delicate finishes.
- Replace or wash cloths before they redistribute dirt.
- Follow care instructions so cloths keep working effectively.
Mops and floor tools
- Match the mop and moisture level to the floor material.
- Avoid over-wetting wood and other moisture-sensitive surfaces.
- Vacuum or remove loose particles before damp cleaning when appropriate.
Cleaning products
- Use products for their intended surface and soil type.
- Follow the manufacturer's dilution and safety instructions.
- Never mix cleaning products unless the manufacturer explicitly says the combination is safe.
